The first eight spots for the knockout stage of day 4 of the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts have been confirmed, and Tuesday night will decide the fate of players in Groups E through H as they battle for the remaining places in the last sixteen.
The evening promises a mix of matches, some featuring players who have already secured their spots, and others where it’s all on the line. The excitement peaks in the final four matches, where each is a direct knockout – the winner moves on, and the loser is eliminated.
Group E
Jermaine Wattimena leads Group E and can clinch the group victory if he wins at least four legs against Mensur Suljovic. With impressive wins over Mike de Decker (5-2) and Michael Smith (5-1), ‘The Machine Gun’ has shown strong form in this tournament. While Wattimena is already set to advance, Suljovic has a slim chance to finish in third place. Meanwhile, De Decker and Smith will go head-to-head to determine who will join Wattimena in the knockout phase.
Group F
Group F sees teenage star Luke Littler at the top of the standings. After early exits from the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, and the European Darts Championship, Littler has guaranteed himself a spot in the second round at the Grand Slam. With commanding wins over Keane Barry (5-0) and Dimitri Van den Bergh (5-1), the 17-year-old needs only two more legs against Lourence Ilagan to secure first place in the group. Van den Bergh can still reach the last sixteen if he wins his final match against Barry.
Group G
It’s a make-or-break night for Michael van Gerwen in Group G as he takes on Ryan Joyce. Van Gerwen started with a 5-0 win over Joyce but was edged out 5-4 by Gary Anderson in his second match. Joyce, who lost to Anderson 5-1, bounced back with a 5-3 victory over Van Leuven. In this final group match, the winner between Van Gerwen and Joyce will move on to the next round. A win for Anderson over Van Leuven will secure him the top spot in Group G.
Group H
Gian van Veen holds the advantage in Group H, also known as the “pool of death.” After winning against Josh Rock (5-2) and Stephen Bunting (5-1), Van Veen has secured a spot in the knockout stage. To win the group, he only needs to secure three legs against Wessel Nijman in their upcoming match. Although Nijman can no longer advance, he could still finish third. Bunting and Rock will go head-to-head in a critical match to determine which of them advances to the Last 16.
