Menzies vs. Mansell: A Battle of Firsts
The opening Quarterfinal sees Cameron Menzies face Mickey Mansell, with both players reaching this stage of a ranking major for the first time in their careers. For one of them, an incredible semifinal berth awaits.
Menzies started his campaign strong, securing a vital 5-2 victory over Martin Schindler in the group stage. Despite losses to Danny Noppert (5-4) and Beau Greaves (5-1), he advanced to the knockout rounds by finishing second in Group B on leg difference. His dramatic 10-9 win over James Wade in the Last 16 showcased his resilience.
Mansell, meanwhile, began his run with a 5-3 win over Wade in the group stage, followed by another 5-3 victory over Rowby-John Rodriguez. Although he lost 5-1 to Luke Humphries, the Northern Irishman progressed by outperforming the reigning World Champion on leg balance. This will be the fourth meeting between Mansell and Menzies, with Menzies leading their head-to-head record 2-1, including a 6-2 victory earlier this year.
Lukeman vs. Cross: A Repeat Showdown
The second Quarterfinal features a rematch between Martin Lukeman and Rob Cross, who already faced off in the group stage. Lukeman emerged victorious with a 5-3 win, one of his three group-stage triumphs. “Smash” also defeated Peter Wright in a stunning 5-0 whitewash and overcame Leonard Gates 5-3. He continued his momentum in the knockout rounds with a convincing 10-5 victory over Ross Smith.
Cross, despite his earlier loss to Lukeman, showcased his class with group-stage wins over Gates (5-2) and Wright (5-1). The former World Champion then dominated Ritchie Edhouse in the Last 16 with a commanding 10-4 performance.
Friday’s rematch will be their sixth meeting on the PDC Tour. Cross leads the head-to-head 3-2, but Lukeman will take confidence from his group-stage success as they battle for a spot in the semifinals.
