Gabriel Clemens delivered an outstanding performance on Day Two of the Flanders Darts Trophy, knocking out Michael van Gerwen in an exciting second-round match. The German number two averaged 107.27 and hit eight 180s, earning his first career win over van Gerwen.
Clemens nearly hit a perfect nine-dart finish, missing double 18 in the second-to-last leg. However, he finished the match in style with a 104 checkout, securing a 6-4 victory. “This is my first win over Michael, and it’s amazing for me,” said Clemens. “Michael is a legend, and I hope I can play like this more often.”
Humphries and Wright Also Shine
The second round featured 16 matches at the Antwerp Expo on Saturday. World number one Luke Humphries returned to the European Tour with a 6-3 win over Ritchie Edhouse, including a ton-plus average. “It was a tough game, but I’m happy with my performance,” said Humphries. “Now, I’m looking forward to the next match.”
Peter Wright continued his strong form, defeating Martin Schindler 6-2 with a 100+ average. Wright is aiming for back-to-back European Tour titles after winning the German Darts Championship last weekend. Wright will now face Stephen Bunting, who also impressed with a 104 average and seven 180s in his 6-3 win over Scott Williams.
Woodhouse Shocks Price, Searle’s Finishing Masterclass
Luke Woodhouse secured a dramatic 6-5 victory over Gerwyn Price. Woodhouse finished the match with a 76 checkout after Price missed a match dart at the bull. Woodhouse’s victory boosts his hopes of qualifying for the World Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Ryan Searle produced a finishing masterclass, hitting checkouts of 100, 160, 161, and a match-winning 164 to defeat Joe Cullen 6-4. Searle will now meet Ross Smith, who came from 4-0 down to defeat Mike De Decker 6-5.
