Jonny Clayton has secured his spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 World Grand Prix after a 3-1 victory over Ross Smith. Despite a strong start from Smith, it was Clayton who came out on top to continue his journey in Leicester.

Smith began the match in excellent form, winning the first set 3-0 with an impressive average close to 100. This followed his stunning first-round victory against Gian van Veen, where he recorded one of the highest averages in tournament history.

However, after his bright start, Smith’s form dipped. Although he kicked off the second set with a brilliant 145 finish, Clayton quickly turned things around by winning the next three legs, taking the second set and leveling the match.

Clayton took control in the third set, winning the first leg with a 15-darter. Although Smith responded with a 15-darter of his own, he missed key opportunities to regain the lead. In the deciding leg of the set, Smith had a chance to take the set with a 110 finish but missed the double 16, allowing Clayton to secure the set.

The fourth set was more straightforward for Clayton, who won 3-1 to claim the match and advance to the quarter-finals for the second time in his career. The last time he reached this stage, he went on to win the entire tournament.

Clayton now looks ahead to his next challenge, hoping to repeat history and lift the World Grand Prix trophy once again.
