Munich, Germany – Luke Littler lit up the Elten Safety Shoes German Darts Grand Prix on Sunday night, delivering a blistering debut display to cruise into the third round. Meanwhile, Michael van Gerwen showed grit and resilience to survive a scare and keep his title hopes alive.
The second day of the fourth European Tour event of the year saw 16 compelling second-round clashes unfold, split across afternoon and evening sessions at a buzzing Zenith venue.
Littler Makes Statement with 107+ Average
18-year-old phenomenon Luke Littler once again proved why he’s the most talked-about name in darts. Facing fellow young gun Cam Crabtree, Littler unleashed a clinical 6–1 demolition, recording a stunning 107+ average and not allowing his opponent more than three darts at double.
🗣 “Everything went well there, I’m very happy,” Littler said post-match. “It’s my first time in Munich and hopefully I can pick up another trophy by tomorrow. If I play like this again tomorrow, I’ll be happy.”
Littler’s next test comes in the shape of Joe Cullen, who eased past Mickey Mansell 6–2 earlier in the day.
Van Gerwen Survives Huybrechts Thriller
It wasn’t smooth sailing for Michael van Gerwen, who came within a dart of elimination against Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts. Despite boasting a 102+ average, Van Gerwen had to claw back from 5–4 down to eventually claim a nail-biting 6–5 victory, capitalizing on three missed match darts from his opponent.
🗣 “It was definitely a rollercoaster,” admitted MVG. “I’m not going through the easiest patch in my life, so I’m battling for every win I can. I’m glad I battled through—it was a really important win.”
Other Highlights from a Packed Sunday
🇩🇪 Martin Schindler delighted the home crowd with a commanding 6–1 win over Jonny Clayton, while Ryan Joyce registered the day’s only whitewash—obliterating Damon Heta 6–0 with a 101 average.
