Luke Humphries has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 World Grand Prix after a 3-1 victory over Ricardo Pietreczko in Leicester. The defending champion showed his class, securing a solid win to move into the last eight.
Humphries started strong, winning the first set 3-0. However, Pietreczko fought back in the second set, holding his throw twice and then breaking Humphries with a 17-dart finish to win the set 3-1.
In the third set, Pietreczko missed a chance to take the lead, and Humphries capitalized with a 112 finish. The set went back and forth, but Humphries finished with a 130 checkout to move ahead 2-1 in sets.
In the fourth set, Humphries quickly broke Pietreczko’s throw and held his own to take a 2-0 lead. Pietreczko responded with a 78 finish, but Humphries sealed the match with a 90 checkout, securing his place in the quarter-finals.
Humphries finished with an average of 92.01 and a 45% success rate on his doubles. He now looks ahead to the next round as he continues his title defense.
