Peter Wright has been crowned the champion of the 2024 German Darts Championship, securing a well-deserved victory with an 8-5 win over Luke Littler in the final. This victory adds yet another European Tour title to Wright’s impressive career.
The final showdown saw Wright overcome a tough path to victory, including stunning wins over Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals and Dave Chisnall in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Littler also faced a challenging route, narrowly defeating Damon Heta in a last-leg decider in the quarter-finals before dominating Daryl Gurney in the semi-finals.
Littler started the final in blazing form, quickly racing to a 3-0 lead with impressive legs of 11, 14, and 13 darts. Wright finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth leg, easing some of the early pressure. After Littler restored his three-leg advantage, Wright seized an opportunity to close the gap, taking out a 110 checkout to stay in touch at 4-2.
Despite Littler responding with a 12-dart leg and a 100 checkout, Wright remained determined, firing back with a brilliant 146 checkout to keep the match close. The turning point came in the ninth leg when Wright broke Littler’s throw after the young player missed a double 18 for a double-double finish. Wright capitalized and leveled the match.
Wright took the lead for the first time, breaking Littler’s throw again with a 14-dart leg. Although both players struggled with finishing in the 12th leg, Wright managed to move within one leg of victory at 7-5.
With Wright needing just 60 points to win, Littler faced the daunting task of checking out 167 to stay in the match. When he couldn’t, Wright calmly finished the job, claiming a brilliant and much-needed tournament win.
This victory marks another significant achievement in Peter Wright’s career, highlighting his skill and resilience on the big stage.
